Peace Garden Bridge, Minneapolis. The bridge consists of decorative copper blocks inlaid with Minnesota granite. One of the elements that I’m drawn to most are these granite blocks, which are not local but instead pulled from the actual rubble near the atomic bomb ground zero sites at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Also loving the inspiration for the bridge’s zigzag shape - Japanese tradition believes evil spirits only walk in straight lines. No better way to ensure a peaceful visit to the Peace Garden than to shake ‘em off at the bridge as you enter. Design: Kinji Akagawa & Jerry Allan.
